When envisioning the future of sustainable fashion in China, particularly in addressing environmental concerns spanning from textiles to apparel production, I am unequivocal in my belief that the answer lies in embracing sustainable practices. China, with its vast potential, can undoubtedly play a pivotal and positive role in this transformative journey.
My creative endeavors draw inspiration from the ingenious construction methods of traditional Chinese wooden architecture, renowned for its absence of nails. Echoing the interlocking wooden brackets that have withstood the test of time in ancient Chinese buildings, my artwork employs a similar principle. I intricately cut fabric into geometric figures, each designed for seamless interlocking using a zero-waste cutting technique. These multifaceted sets of interlocking shapes unlock a myriad of possibilities, allowing fabric pieces to come together without the need for conventional sewing methods. This innovative approach not only represents a paradigm shift in sustainable fashion but also offers a novel means of reshaping apparel repeatedly on a zero-waste basis.
